On the 27th of May 2018, Satadal Dasgupta, beloved husband, father, professor, research, avid gardener and loving family man passed away. Born in Kolkata, India, Prince Edward Island was his chosen home. Satadal was one of the early professors of the University of Prince Edward Island, joining the Department of Sociology and Anthropology in 1969. His career spanned almost 50 years. In honour of Dr. Dasgupta’s life, and his love for the University of Prince Edward Island and its students, his family and friends established this award that will be granted to an exceptional student of sociology or anthropology graduating from UPEI. UPEI is grateful for this support and honoured to have this award in Dr. Dasgupta’s name.
